Tami Matheny will begin the 2007-08 school year in her second stint with the USC Upstate tennis program, as she will handle the duties of assistant coach on an interim basis. She is in her 10th year at USC Upstate and her sixth as associate athletic director.

Matheny was promoted from assistant athletic director in August 2002. She serves as the Senior Woman Administrator, a position she has held for eight years. She was promoted to assistant athletic director in December 2000. Matheny stepped down as the head ocach of the men's and women's tennis teams in 2003.

In addition to her administrative duties at USC Upstate, she has served as a member of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Mid-Atlantic Region committe and was the chair in 2005-06.

Matheny came to USC Upstate as the head tennis coach in 1998. During her five-year stint with the tennis programs, she elevated the programs to levels never before seen. In 2003, the women's team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever and the men's team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, also a first for the program. Presently, she serves on the NCAA National Tennis Committee and was the interim chair of the South Atlantic Region last year.

Previously, she served as tennis professional at UNC Hospital and assistant pro at Tampa Yacht and Country Club. In 1998, she served as a productions assistant at the Lipton Tennis Tournament.

Matheny graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1993, and earned a master's degree in sports administration from the University of North Carolina in 1999. She was named the 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year while at Lenoir-Rhyne.
