Ciria Ochoa is in her fourth year as assistant softball coach at USC Upstate. Ochoa assists in a phases of the softball program with primary responsibilities as the pitching coach and coordinator of the strength and conditioning program.

Under her guidance, the Upstate pitching unit has turned in record-breaking performances in the circle. She has been instrumental in the development of the staff since coming to Upstate in the summer of 2006. The 2007 Spartans broke three school team records, including 47 wins. In 2008, Morgan Childers was named the A-Sun Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year while breaking the school's single-season strikeout record. Last year, Childers again broke the single-season school strikeout record while becoming the program's career leader with 535 K's.

Ochoa came to USC Upstate after serving as assistant coach at Lander University in 2005-06. Primarily the pitching coach at Lander, she also assisted with the outfielders and hitters and helped implement the strength and conditioning program for the Bearcats.

Prior to her time at Lander, Ochoa was the assistant coach at Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima, Wash., from 2004-05. She was the pitching coach and worked with the outfielders and hitters. In the spring of 2004, she served as the pitching coach at Selah High School in Selah, Wash. In addition to her coaching duties, she has been an instructor at summer youth softball camps since 2000.

Ochoa was a four-year letterwinner on the softball team at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash. After beginning her career as a starting pitcher, a series of injuries relegated her to relief appearances. She holds the school's all-times saves and games finished records, is eighth in appearances, and 14th in wins. She owns the school's single-season record for saves with five in 2001 and ranks fourth on the single-season list with 25 appearances in 2001. In addition to her career on the field, she was a standout student, graduating with a 3.6 GPA and a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was a member of the school's Dean's List and earned Academic All-District honors. She earned a master's degree in Instructional Technology from Grand Canyon University in 2008.

A native of Othello, Wash., she was a standout pitcher and outfielder at Othello High School. A four-year letterwinner, she was an All-State, All-Area, and All-League selection. She earned several team awards, including Most Valuable Player and the Coach's Award as well as serving as Team Captain. She was a solid student as well, earning membership into the National Honor Society and being selected Who's Who Among American High School Students.
