Sedona, Ariz - The USC Upstate women's golf team opened the Red Rocks Invitational with a 330 and is tied for ninth heading into the final round at the 6,114 yard, par 72 Oak Creek Country Club Saturday afternoon.

Upstate is tied for ninth with Portland State in the 15-team field. The Spartans lead Montana and Montana State by just one stroke, Southern Utah by 13, Utah Valley by 16 and Idaho State by 27. Upstate trails seventh place Northern Colorado and CSU-Northridge by just two strokes entering the final round Sunday.

Western Michigan opened with a 309 to take a two stroke lead over Eastern Michigan. Northern Arizona is third at 314, tied with Oral Roberts. UC-Riverside stands fifth with a 315 and is followed by Wyoming (323), Northern Colorado (328), CSU-Northridge (328), Portland State (330), Upstate (330), Montana (331), Montana State (331), Southern Utah (343), Utah Valley (346) and Idaho State (357).

Individually, Richia Wedzik was the low Spartan on the day. She shot a 79 and is tied for 13th, just six strokes behind the leader of the tournament, Catherine Fortin of Eastern Michigan. Richelle Wedzik is tied for 24th after an 80. Julie Miller opened with an 83 and is tied for 47th. Jessica Wofford shot an 88 and is tied for 67th, while Audrey Church shot a 91 and is tied for 80th.
