SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Starting the season at the SEC's Kentucky, the USC Upstate women's basketball team held its ground for much of the game, capping the game on a 13-2 run before falling 74-59. Four players scored in double-digits in the game for the Spartans.

So now that the Spartans will get to walk into another big conference school with a rich athletic history on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Atlantic Coast Conference's Wake Forest, they will do so knowing what to expect.

USC Upstate was led in the first game by 13 points and four assists from junior Courtney Bradley, 12 points and six rebounds from freshman Oceana Jackson, 11 points and three rebounds from freshman Tiffany Whiting and 10 points and 12 rebounds from junior Ebony Johnson.

Wake Forest will open the 2007-08 season against Upstate after finishing 2006-07 with a 9-20 overall record and a final 0-14 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Demon Deacons did win two exhibition games against Division II schools, downing Anderson 67-50 and NC Central, 74-35. Christen Brown scored in double figures in each game. The team also features Mekia Valentine, a member of the 2006-07 ACC All-Freshman of the Year.

Spartan Notables
• This is the Spartans first regular season game against an ACC opponent in school history.
• Junior Ebony Johnson's double-double at Kentucky was the Spartans' first since junior Courtney Bradley posted 32 points and 10 rebounds against Lander on Feb. 21, 2007. She is the first player in the DI era to post a double-double.
• The Spartans scored 13 straight points at Kentucky, their first run of at least 10-0 in the DI era, from 4:11 remaining in the second half until five seconds remained in the game.
• Four players finished in double figures at Kentucky (juniors Courtney Bradley, Ebony Johnson, freshmen Tiffany Whiting, Oceana Jackson) for the first time since an 84-45 win over Francis Marion on Jan. 10, 2007.
• Junior Courtney Bradley is 48 points shy of 500 in her career, seven 3-pointers shy of 100, and eight assists shy of seventh in school history.
• Junior Ebony Johnson is eight points from 300 in her career and seven rebounds from 200.
• Sophomore Courtney Hawkins is nine points from 200 in her career and 24 rebounds from 100.
