SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Starting the season at the SEC's Kentucky, the USC Upstate women's basketball team held its ground for much of the game, capping the game on a 13-2 run before falling 74-59. Four players scored in double-digits in the game for the Spartans. So now that the Spartans will get to walk into another big conference school with a rich athletic history on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Atlantic Coast Conference's Wake Forest, they will do so knowing what to expect. USC Upstate was led in the first game by 13 points and four assists from junior Courtney Bradley, 12 points and six rebounds from freshman Oceana Jackson, 11 points and three rebounds from freshman Tiffany Whiting and 10 points and 12 rebounds from junior Ebony Johnson. Wake Forest will open the 2007-08 season against Upstate after finishing 2006-07 with a 9-20 overall record and a final 0-14 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Demon Deacons did win two exhibition games against Division II schools, downing Anderson 67-50 and NC Central, 74-35. Christen Brown scored in double figures in each game.
