By KEVIN MELTON USC Upstate's bubble burst Monday night. The women's basketball team was not selected for the 64-team NIT field despite posting its best record since joining Division I three seasons ago. The Spartans finished the season 20-9 after winning a combined 18 games the previous two seasons. Upstate coach Tammy George said she's proud of her team's accomplishments despite missing the tournament. "Obviously, we are disappointed we didn't get an at-large bid to the WNIT," George said in an e-mail. "We had a great season and to even be considered for an at-large bid in our third year of Division I play is pretty special. The team this year has laid a foundation that we can build on next year in our last year of the transition and carry us into our first year of Atlantic Sun tournament eligibility in 2011-12."
