Spartans Head To Buies Creek For Final Road Game Of Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will hit the road for one final time during the 2007-08 season, heading to Buies Creek, N.C., for an A-Sun clash with Campbell at 5:45 p.m.

Sophomore Courtney Hawkins leads the 5-22 Spartans, as she is on an impressive offensive roll, having scored 15 or more points in 11 of the last 12 games. Freshman Tiffany Whiting provided a compliment to Hawkins during the Spartans' loss to Gardner-Webb on Saturday, posting 11 points and draining three 3-pointers.

Campbell enters Monday with a 10-16 record overall and a 5-8 mark in the A-Sun after falling to ETSU, 78-61, on Saturday at Carter Gymnasium. The Camels will be saying an emotional farewell to Carter Gym, their home for 55 seasons of basketball, on Monday, as the new Pope Convocation Center will be ready for play during the 2008-09 season.

Marlena Murphy leads the Lady Camels, having averaged 12.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this season. Two other Camels average more than 7.0 points per game with Maggie Rich averaging 7.6 per game, thanks to 33 3-pointers, and Lauren Arthur adding 7.4 per game, as she has connected on 26 shots from downtown.

Campbell leads the all-time series, 1-0, winning the first meeting, 84-70, on Jan. 20.

• The Spartans are 5-5 on Feb. 25, last dropping a game to UNC Pembroke, 71-53, in 2007.
• Sophomore Courtney Hawkins has posted seven straight games of 15 or more points, the longest streak of her career.
• Sophomore Courtney Hawkins has scored in double figures in 21 of 27 games this year and has posted 20 or more six times.
• Junior Cherale Powell has 10 games with five or more rebounds this season, including five boards vs. Gardner-Webb.
• Junior Kelly Westfield leads the Spartans with six blocked shots in conference play.
• Freshman Tiffany Whiting has hit at least two 3-pointers in 11 games and three in four games after hitting three at Gardner-Webb.

• Sophomore Courtney Hawkins became the 23rd player in school history to reach 600 career points at Gardner-Webb.
• Junior Ebony Johnson is the only player in the country 5-7 or shorter that is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game.
