SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will hit the road for one final time during the 2007-08 season, heading to Buies Creek, N.C., for an A-Sun clash with Campbell at 5:45 p.m. Sophomore Courtney Hawkins leads the 5-22 Spartans, as she is on an impressive offensive roll, having scored 15 or more points in 11 of the last 12 games. Freshman Tiffany Whiting provided a compliment to Hawkins during the Spartans' loss to Gardner-Webb on Saturday, posting 11 points and draining three 3-pointers. Campbell enters Monday with a 10-16 record overall and a 5-8 mark in the A-Sun after falling to ETSU, 78-61, on Saturday at Carter Gymnasium. The Camels will be saying an emotional farewell to Carter Gym, their home for 55 seasons of basketball, on Monday, as the new Pope Convocation Center will be ready for play during the 2008-09 season. Marlena Murphy leads the Lady Camels, having averaged 12.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this season. Two other Camels average more than 7.0 points per game with Maggie Rich averaging 7.6 per game, thanks to 33 3-pointers, and Lauren Arthur adding 7.4 per game, as she has connected on 26 shots from downtown. Campbell leads the all-time series, 1-0, winning the first meeting, 84-70, on Jan. 20. Spartan Notables |
