SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After picking up their first win in 2008 on Monday night with a 16-point win over Lipscomb on Monday night, the USC Upstate women's basketball team will get back on the road on Saturday, heading to Gardner-Webb for a conference showdown. USC Upstate, which is 5-21 overall and 1-12 A-Sun, got a career-high 11 points from senior Jessica McGlothlen and a career-high 20 points from sophomore Shanea Wyant as the Spartans downed the Lady Bisons, 69-53, on Saturday. Sophomore Courtney Hawkins also added 26 points in the game. Gardner-Webb enters the weekend at 11-14 overall and 7-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bulldogs are looking to hold onto the fourth seed in the A-Sun Tournament, holding a 1/2 game lead with three games remaining. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by Margaret Roundtree, who is averaging 13.2 points per game, one of three players averaging double figures. She also leads the team with a 7.2 rebounding average. Monique Hudson adds 11.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and she also has 51 assists. Laura Povilonyte posts 10.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series, 3-2, winning the last meeting, 73-56, at the Hodge Center on Jan. 14. Spartan Notables |
