SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will look to end a four-game skid when it takes the court against Atlantic Sun leaders, Gardner-Webb, on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Hodge Center.
Upstate used a resurgent offense to score 70 points on Saturday at Campbell as they fell to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the A-Sun in the 84-70 loss. Sophomore Courtney Hawkins led the Spartans in the game, scoring a season-high 30 points, and raising her scoring average to a team-leading 13.1. Junior Courtney Bradley added four assists in the game to tie for third in school history with 318 career assists.
The Bulldogs enter Monday night's game with a 7-9 overall record and a perfect 3-0 slate in the Atlantic Sun. Gardner-Webb is led by a solid inside-out duo in sophomore forward Margaret Roundtree and freshman guard Monique Hudson. Roundtree leads the Runnin' Bulldogs, averaging 13.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Hudson, a frontrunner for Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, averages 13.0 points, 2.1 steals and 1.9 assists.
The series between the two programs is tied at two, although they haven't met since Nov. 21, 1998, when Gardner-Webb beat then USC Spartanburg, 64-48 in Boiling Springs, N.C.
