SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Already having secured a piece of the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title, the No. 52 USC Upstate men's tennis team can wrap up the first outright conference title in school history on Tuesday afternoon when Campbell comes to the USC Upstate Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. match. The Spartans have enjoyed an incredible run through the conference this season, beating three regionally-ranked opponents and becoming the first team in the league's history to beat ETSU during the regular season with a 4-3 win on March 19. Now, Upstate will have to get past a tough Campbell team that is looking to wrap up a No. 3 seed at the A-Sun Tournament and features the A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, Davy Sum. The match will also be the final ones in the careers of the program's top three winningest players, Javier Tori, Jack Roux and Renzo Airaldi. The three seniors have combined for 211 singles matches, a winning percentage of .651 and 234 doubles matches, a winning rate of .743. Last Meeting Recaps Spartan Volleys With Upstate's 6-1 win over Jacksonville on March 27, the three seniors became the winningest senior class in school history ... In four years, the Upstate senior class has helped Upstate post a 77-19 (.802) record. The Spartan lineup features the three winningest players in school history, with Javier Tori first with 165 wins, Jack Roux second with 142 wins and Renzo Airaldi third with 138 victories. Senior Javier Tori is currently on a 15-match singles winning streak, which is the longest of the season for Upstate and the second longest in the D-I era ... sophomore Ramiro Blanco won 23 matches in a row as a freshman. Senior Javier Tori became the only player in school history to record 20 doubles wins in all four years of his career with his doubles win on Thursday against Stetson ... He is already the only player in school history to record three 20 singles wins seasons, reaching the mark on Saturday at Jacksonville. Senior Javier Tori has won an A-Sun record five player of the week awards in his career and three this season. Senior Jack Roux is the only player in school history to win 15 singles matches in all four years of his career. Sophomore Ramiro Blanco helped Upstate tie another record on Wednesday, as he earned the fourth Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award of the season, tying the mark of four weekly awards won by the Spartans in 2009 in the A-Sun and in 2003 as members of the Division II Peach Belt Conference. Upstate has gone 17-2 (.895) since an 0-3 start against three nationally-ranked opponents. The Spartans are 26-3 (.897) all-time in A-Sun matches. |
