CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Sophomore Renzo Airaldi (Lima, Peru/Domingo Faustino Sarmiento) and junior Sandy Franz (Duesseldorf, Germany/Berufskolleg Hilden) won their first round doubles match in the ITA Mideast Regionals Open Doubles bracket on Thursday at the University of Virginia's Boyd Tinsley Courts. The duo took an 8-3 decision from East Tennessee State's Daniel Isaza and Lisandro Picardo and will move on to face the No. 5-seed and 24th-ranked Houston Barrick and Dominic Inglot of Virginia on Friday. Sophomore Jack Roux (Santiago, Chile/Subercaseaux) and Javier Tori (Lima, Peru/Markham College) won their match in the doubles qualifier over Winthrop's Alejandro Portugal and Arthur Takahashi, 8-5, but fell in the opening round of the main draw to Duke's Reid Carleton and Kiril Dimitrov, 8-2. Franz fell in the first round of the main singles draw in three sets to Old Dominion's Aleksandr Seleznev, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Seleznev was a Second Team All-CAA selection last season. |
