A three-time ITA All-American during his playing career at USC Upstate, Stefan Dumitrescu will stay a part of the Spartan family, serving as a student assistant coach as he finishes his degree in business. Dumitrescu, who is from Bucharest, Romania, finished the 2007 season with a 10-4 singles record having fought nagging injuries throughout the season. He won his last five matches of the year in helping lead Upstate to its sixth straight NCAA Regionals appearance and its second straight appearance in the NCAA Nationals. The Spartans claimed a final No. 5 national ranking and Dumitrescu finished the year ranked No. 5 in singles. During the fall, he claimed the Mid-Atlantic singles title for the second time in his career and advanced to the Division II championship match of the Small College National Championships. Dumitrescu earned two All-America honors in singles. He also earned the honor as a junior, helping Upstate advanced to the NCAA Nationals. He owned a 48-19 singles record in his four-year career. Dumitrescu finished his career with a 72-13 doubles record, earning All-American honors as a senior with now-sophomore Renzo Airaldi. |
