Through the 16-game losing streak, USC Upstate baseball head coach Matt Fincher also had to deal with the loss of his father.

The Spartans interrupted six straight victories with three straight defeats in an early-March weekend series at home to George Washington. As the team headed to Charleston on a Tuesday to play against Charleston Southern and The Citadel, Fincher went to Athens, Ga., to be with is ailing father, Cameron, who was in his final days of a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

"It was definitely tough, him not being with us," USC Upstate senior catcher Jimmy Tanner said. "We went on without him."
