SPARTANBURG, S.C. - USC Upstate men's track and field athlete Perrish Goggins has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced Wednesday. Goggins, a freshman computer science major from Columbia, S.C., turned in a tremendous performance at the Furman Invitational in Greenville this past Saturday by finishing in the top-three in three events including winning the men's long jump with a jump of 21-10.50 (6.66m). He was also second in the men's high jump clearing a height of 6-06.00 (1.98m) and was third in the men's 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32. After a terrific indoor season which culminated in being named the A-Sun Men's Outstanding Freshman Performer at the A-Sun Indoor Championships on March 1, Goggins has seven top-five finishes during the outdoor season in various events such as the men's long jump, triple jump, high jump and 100 meter dash. Goggins is the first-ever men's track and field athlete at USC Upstate to win a weekly A-Sun honor and is the 16th USC Upstate athlete to win a weekly or montly award from the conference in the 2007-08 athletic year. |
