49er Classic Schedule of Events SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After a three week-break from competition following the conclusion of the indoor season, the USC Upstate track and field team will kick off the outdoor season at this weekend's 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. "I am excited for the outdoor season to get underway," said head coach Jimmy Stephens. "Our team grew and improved significantly during the indoor season. Gilbert and Carolyne won individual titles at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships which was a tremendous accomplishment for them. I fully expect our team to continue to grow and improve over the course of the outdoor season as we prepare for the A-Sun Outdoor Championships in May." Upstate will face a large field at the 49er Classic, including event host Charlotte, Clemson, Davidson, Gardner-Webb, North Carolina State, Winthrop and Wofford. At last season's 49er Classic (3/20-21), Perrish Goggins and Justin Crawford had strong performances for the men's team, while Emily Tangwar and Jemeli Sang had strong performances on the women's side. Goggins finished second in the high jump with a height of 6-06.75, with Crawford posting a third-place finish in the pole vault (14-07.25). Tangwar recorded a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:40.06 and finished fifth in the 800-meter run after an event time of 2:17.75. Meanwhile, Sang finished in third-place in the 3,000-meter run (10:33.51). Fans can follow along with live results by clicking here.
