Morgan Childers Softball

Softball player Morgan Childers has been named the SunCom Wireless Spartan of the Week after leading Upstate to four wins in six games last week, including a season-ending sweep at Mercer Sunday.

Childers, a freshman from Kings Mountain, N.C., started the week with a complete game win in five innings over Furman before heading to Presbyterian and recording a two-hit complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts. She picked up both wins in the sweep of Mercer Sunday. She tossed a complete game, nine-inning win in game one, fnishing with five strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. She pitched 3.2 innings of relief in the second game to earn the victory, also recording five strikeouts in the game.

Childers had a tremendous season for the Spartans, finishing with a school record 27 wins and 258 strikeouts. She currently leads the A-Sun with 27 wins and a .171 opponent's batting average, and ranks among the top three in five other statistical categories.
