For the first time in 2007-08, there are co-Spartans of the Week in honor of incredible individual achievement by men's golfer Josh Gallman and women's tennis player Anna Novo. Gallman, from Gaffney, S.C., claimed the individual championship at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate with a 10-under-par 206 total in the 54-hole event. Gallman birdied his 17th hole Sunday to win the tournament by one stroke. He is off to a strong start this season, finishing second to teammate Michael Lawrence in the Rutgers Invitational. Gallman helped lead the Spartans to a second-place finish in the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships, firing a 4-under-par 67 in the final round. Novo, from Caracas, Venezuela, won the A1 singles championship and the A2 doubles title at the Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational hosted by N.C. State over the weekend. She defeated the No.1 seed in the tournament, Elon's Deanna Bailey, in the first round and claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over N.C. State's Neals Barringer in the finals to win the championship. It marks the second fall tournament title for the junior, having won the USC Upstate Invitational two weeks ago. She also teamed with freshman Emilia Milovanovic to win the doubles championship in the A2 flight at the Wolfpack Invitational. Novo led Upstate to its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Nationals in 2007 and finished the season ranked 11th in the nation in singles. Previous Entries |
