Luke Payne Men's Basketball

Men's basketball player Luke Payne has been named the SunCom Wireless Spartan of the Week after reaching a career milestone last week.

Payne, a senior guard from Spartanburg, scored 15 points Saturday at UNC Greensboro, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for his career. He became the 17th player in the history of the storied program to reach 1,000 points. He also ranks among the all-time greats in 12 other statistical categories. Payne now has 1,003 points and could easily move into the Top 15 by the Christmas Break.

Payne currently leads Upstate in scoring at better than 14 points per game, reaching double figures in all but one contest this season.
