Courtney Hawkins Women's Basketball

Women's basketball player Courtney Hawkins has been named the SunCom Wireless Spartan of the Week after leading the women's hoops team to its first win of the Division I era.

Hawkins, from Greer, had a stellar week last week. She finished the week with 36 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and four assists against Wake Forest and Charleston Southern. The sophomore tallied 10 points, three rebounds and three assists against Wake Forest, leading the Spartans to an impressive showing against the Atlantic Coast Conference school. She turned in a stellar 26-point, nine-rebound and four-steal effort in leading Upstate to an 80-68 victory at Charleston Southern Friday. The win was Upstate's first over a Division I opponent since moving to Division I membership this season.

Hawkins leads the Spartans with 13.7 ppg through three games and also averages 5.0 rebounds per outing. Hawkins will lead the Spartans in their home opener Wednesday against IUPUI and Saturday against Limestone.
