For the first time this year, softball player Lauren Quevedo has been named the SunCom Wireless Spartan of the Week after leading Upstate to a 6-0 record last week. Quevedo, a freshman from Wellington, Fla., had a tremendous week last week. She hit three-game winning home runs on the week, including two grand slams. She finished the week hitting .412 (7-for-17) with four dingers, 12 RBIs, four RBIs and a 1.118 slugging percentage. She began the week knocking a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Upstate to a sweep of Furman. She connected with a grand slam in the first game against Stetson Friday, giving the Spartans the winning runs in the 6-2 win in game one. She also delivered a two-run homer in the second game of the sweep against the Hatters. Finally, after Upstate had claimed a 6-4 win in the first game of the doubleheader with Florida Gulf Coast, she delivered a grand slam for the second straight day to provide the winning runs in the second game, 7-3 win over the Eagles, completing the sweep for the Spartans. Quevedo is the leading hitter for the Spartans in A-Sun games, recording a .431 batting average with 19 RBIs. Overall she ranks fourth on the team with a .319 batting average. Previous Entries |
