Brent Smith is in his fifth year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at USC Upstate.

Smith came to USC Upstate after working with the sports medicine department of the Cape Fear Wild Cats Arena Football League team in 2004. Prior to his stint with the Wild Cats, he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at UNC Pembroke from 2002-04 while working on his master's degree in physical education. He assisted with men's soccer, wrestling, and baseball for two seasons at UNCP as a graduate student.

While in graduate school, he also worked as a physical therapist aid for Raleigh Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Specialists in 2003 and was an intern with the Carolina Cobras Arena Football League team in 2002. He worked with the N.C. State football team as an intern from 2001-02.

Smith graduated from UNC Pembroke in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in athletic training. While at the school he served as a student athletic trainer working with the volleyball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, track, and cheerleading teams.

Smith and his wife, Karen, were married on June 3, 2006. They have a son, Hudson Tex, born on June 23, 2009.
