Doug Keelan was a standout on the baseball team for two seasons as he joined Head Coach John Daurity on the first two teams at USCS. He played baseball from 1986-87.
He finished his career with a .384 batting average with 87 runs, 91 RBI, 22 doubles, four home runs, and an on-base percentage of .504. Those numbers, along with his 84 starts at catcher in 95 games played, make Keelan one the most productive players to ever wear a USCS uniform. When he left the program after the 1987 season, he owned several career and single-season records. It wasn't until consecutive classes of four-year players cycled through the program that his records were broken. One record, his 79 hits during the 1986 season, remained the top single-season effort until current Rifle third baseman Chris Nowak topped the mark in 2002, finishing with 82 hits.
He earned All-America, All-District, and District Player of the Week honors during his stint as a Rifle. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves after completing his eligibility.
Currently, he is a physical education teacher and head softball coach at Olympic High School in Charlotte , NC . He is married and has two daughters.
