Mario del Pino was a standout on USC Spartanburg's first varsity men's soccer team. He played for the Rifles from 1980-83. In four short years, he and his fellow classmates helped guide USCS into national prominence, culminating in an appearance in the NAIA Final Four and a third-place finish in 1983. USCS went 55-19-4 during his four years in the program.
Del Pino earned several honors throughout his four years at USCS. He was named an NAIA All-American and NSCAA All-American in 1983, while also garnering District Six Player of the Year honors. He was an All-District and All-South honoree three times.
Del Pino stands third on USCS' all-time assist list, recording 32 during his playing days. He also ranks among the program's leaders in points, standing 12 th all-time with 78 points.
While del Pino accomplished much on the field, he was also part of a unit that developed a relationship with the local AYSO organization. Currently, del Pino resides in Boiling Springs with his wife, Gwendolyn, and their two sons, Stefan and Christian. Del Pino is employed with CitiFinancial as a Regional Manager overseeing 389 employees in 79 locations in South Carolina and Georgia.
