How was the trip to Alaska been and are other Spartan teams looking to travel anywhere else so far from Spartanburg in the future?
- Sarah, Spartanburg

The BP Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska was a very exciting time. Although the team did not win on the court, I can honestly say they were the most popular team and conducted themselves very well on and off the court. The trip was the first flight for several and it was definitely an educational experience to visit that region. The temperatures averaged from 4 to 15 degrees most days and it snowed everyday while we were in Alaska. Many of our traveling party said that they hoped to return to visit Alaska; however, maybe in the summer months. The people were extremely nice and very much appreciated us coming to their town. Our traveling party was able to visit Santa's house in North Pole, Alaska, go dog sledding, some visited the Alaskan pipeline, and enjoyed some great Alaskan treats such as reindeer sausage and halibut and king salmon.

During our transitional period of entering Division I we believe that we should have a special trip (exempt event) to enhance our schedules. The student-athletes and coaches deserve it and it can be used as a tremendous recruiting tool. The men's team has been invited to participate in the Vegas Classic, another exempt event for 08-09.

The women's basketball team is planning to participate next season in a tournament in Mexico. However, the dates and other logistics are not complete at this time.
