What is the timetable on the convocation center and what progress has been made? -- Stephen, Landrum, S.C.

Mike Hall: We have concluded a feasibility study for a new convocation center. It will be located directly off of North Campus Boulevard near the intersection of North Campus Blvd. East Campus Blvd. This will allow all of our athletic venues to be located within close proximity to each other on the northern edge of campus and allow easy access from any campus entrance.

The Convocation Center plans are for total seating capacity of 7,500. All coaches and staff offices will be located within this facility. We will also feature a large lobby entrance and Hall of Fame display area, four VIP suites and a large hospitality area for dinners and other special event uses. We will have an expansive Sports Medicine facility, athletic weight room, laundry area and expansive locker room facilities.

Although the main function of the facility will be for athletics use, it will also host concerts, graduations and other campus and community events.

The projected costs are approximately $35 million. We are currently looking at both private gifts and business partnerships to fund this project. At this time, no official timetable has been established.
